About our reviews

How we choose products

Smart Home Shields is written by two people: Milena S., who does most of our family's cooking and baking and covers kitchen appliances, and Eugene K., who covers the smart home, home security and home office side. This page explains how we decide what to recommend.

What we do

  • We compare specs from the brand's own pages and the current Amazon listing: ratings in amps and watts, sizes, compatibility, what is in the box.
  • We read warranty terms and support pages, because they often tell you more about what fails than the marketing does.
  • We analyze thousands of verified owner reviews and forum threads, and group the complaints: what breaks, what annoys people after a few months, who returns it and why. We summarize this in our own words.
  • We check that products are current: the right model, in stock, and sold or shipped by Amazon or the brand.

What we never claim

  • We don't run a test lab. If we haven't owned or used a product, the article says so plainly.
  • When we have used something ourselves (for example, Milena's KitchenAid stand mixer), we say that too.
  • We don't show Amazon prices, star ratings or review counts, because they change constantly and Amazon only allows that information through its own tools.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links, mostly to Amazon. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change what we recommend, and every article that contains affiliate links says so before the first link.

Updates

Products change quickly. We recheck our most-read articles regularly and update the date at the top when we do. If you spot something out of date, use the contact link in the menu.
